It seems to me that there is a wide variety of "standards" that reenactors
apply to vehicles/equipment.
I have seen reenactors who were WAY too old or out of shape to have seen
combat criticize the equipment being used....
I have seen beautifully restored equipment put on the "battlefield," with
great care taken not to mar the finish....
I have seen (here in Tenn.) very few authentic W.W.II German vehicles, I
suppose that the purists would have reenactments done here as strictly
infantry operations...
I have seen reenactors ask to borrow my friend's vehicles for battle, but ask
the vehicle owners not participate, because their clothing was up to standard
(although I sure think very little of a White Scout car driver is visible in
a combat situation).....
I have seen my friends engage in pitched battles, SDKZ222 repro, Kuble repro
vs. M20 and half-tracks....
All the participants enjoyed themselves, as did the thousands of spectators,
a few learned something, and even fewer could tell you ANYTHING about the
equipment.
While agree that repro equipment should not be passed off as the real thing
at a show, there is nothing wrong IMHO with displaying placarded as a repro.
Many people will never get to see the real thing, ever. A repro will be as
close as they get to understanding the size, layout, etc. of a lot of
equipment.
BTW, what about repro tubs on Jeeps?? Should they be "allowed" or not?
