One good MV related place to visit is the George S. Patton Museum, about 50 miles
east of Palm Springs on Interstate 10 at Chiriaco Summit. The museum tells about
the extensive desert training areas in the California and Arizona deserts set up
by Patton and others during W.W.II. If you are really adventurous, you can
actually visit the site of some of the old camps. The museum staff can tell you
where they are and what is there to see.

At the museum itself there are a number of MV's on display, including several M60
(I think) tanks rescued from the target range.

Have a good trip!
