Ladies and Gentlemen,

I got a "Chang" to come around to my place with his welding gear. Careful
with the word "Chang" in Thai as if you say it in the wrong tone, he would
have turned up with an Elephant - and I'm not kidding!

I have been told by friends who work Offshore on the rigs in the Gulf, that
the Thais are the world's best welders bar none. Hmmm..... my experience
of them in other ways is poor to say the least, so I was sceptical, to put
it mildly. I am a changed (almost) man in my attitude. This guy flips his
torch on and off with scant regard for anything except the actual gas tank
(removed and emptied). He can weld up holes drilled in the bodywork in
about a minute and you would never know that they were there. New captive
nuts to hold down the tranny cover in around two minutes apiece, with
minimal collateral damage; fill a few old ones in for new tapping.

So, Mutts being Mutts, I jacked her up and said: At 'em boy! And off he
went. The classic frame-joint rot disappeared in minutes, replaced by new
metal and filler rod, as necessary. He's still out there now, as I speak,
just tidying up a few Thai Army welds and some pin-hole rot and dressing
the inner edges of the axe-head slot.

The robber is charging me $25 bucks too!
FWIW
Gavin
