No way! I plan to start driving my HMMWV regularly as a daily driver
as soon as I finish making the repairs I deem necessary to make it
safe, reliable and road-worthy. I'm registering my deuce as historical
(and living with the use restrictions) only to avoid the weight fees
that CA would charge me otherwise; I expect to continue to be able to
re-classify it as a regular commercial truck if I decide I'd rather
pay the weight fees and increased insurance than live with the
historical plate restrictions, and furthermore, I hope to move to a
state where I don't need a commercial license and commercial fees for
a personal-use vehicle somday in the future.

I will not support such legislation, and will actively fight it unless
it is the ONLY way I can keep my green trucks on the road, because I
feel that it would set a dangerous legal precedent that it's OK to
limit the use of such vehicles, by setting a minimum standard for
their allowed use which is well below current standards in most
states.

Perhaps you could lobby the state to relax the 25-year rule for
historical vehicles which are military surplus and in authentic
condition, due to their unique nature, but the historical plates must
still be an *alternative* to regular unlimited plates.

Robert, please don't take my strong comments as a personal attack.
This is just a touchy topic which will bring out some strong opinions
from folks. I fully anticipate getting flamed myself a few times in
this ongoing discussion... :-)
