Very interesting post. Here in the states we have several "combination"
hitches that are used mainly in the construction industry. They support both
the lunette eye and the ball hitch. This is achieved by having the typical
"military" hitch but the bottom part of the C has a ball cast onto it. For
"military mode" the lunette eye goes inside the C and you close the pintle
just like any other military hitch. In Civillian mode, the hitch is left
open and the ball end of the lower part of the hitch is exposed. I used to
have one on my M38A1 to move my hobie cat sailboat around....
