hello Jeffrey
i am a ex heavy truck mechanic its hard to diagnose an overheating problem over
the list but i will throw out a few ideas. i doubt its a head gasket problem but
it could be the LD465-1 series does not have the problems the old "427's" had and
as all were replaced years ago in the military i doubt you have one. now remember
these are suggestions :
1. check fan belts maybe loose
2. check for t/stat opening at 160 degrees you should feel heat in the top hose
3. verify the temp with a known good thermometer
4. are you losing coolant if no not a head gasket.
5. check if water pump is circulating coolant, if not bad pump
6. check for plugged radiator, disconnect both radiator hoses run water through
the neck it should run out bottom freely, if not radiator plugged
7. do bubble test described earlier that will tell you if head gasket blown
let us know what you find note if you over sped engine you probably blew head
gasket or cracked one of the heads
