The colour you want is a USAF colour.... Strata Blue 15045. This is a
full-gloss colour. As far as this colour being used on M38s, I can confirm
that this is so. In a scrapyard here in England, there were several (6 in
fact) M38s piled in a sort of pyramid.... 3 on the floor, two on top of them,
and one (fitted with a hard-top) at the apex of the pile. All had been bought
ex-USAF and all were in strata blue. Everyone who went to the yard to attempt
to purchase these vehicles came away even bluer than the jeeps..... as
nothing could induce the scrapyard owner (or was it his dog.... I could never
tell the two apart).... to sell....he was always "about to restore them
himself".
When I was last down at Mildenhall USAF base in Suffolk, I noticed several
vans belonging to the AF which were painted gloss blue..... and very nice
they looked too.
