Thanks to all who responded about my compression test
results. Everyone said to consider the valves, so tonight
Barry removed the manifolds and valve covers. I marked the
crank pully at TDC and every 4.5" to divide it into 6 equal
segments. I got the firing order of 1-5-3-6-2-4, and as
Barry turned the engine over I put my finger over the #1
spark plug hole. As I felt the pressure build, Barry turned
the engine until the pointer lined up with 00. This way we
knew the piston was exactly at TDC. I then used feeler
gauges to take readings from the intake and exhaust valves,
and wrote them down. Next, I put my finger over #5 plug
hole, and as I felt the pressure build, Barry turned the
engine until the pointer lined up with one of the measured
white marks I had made on the pulley. We continued to do
this until all 6 cylinders were measured:

1) I.015 E.018 95/100 (compression readings)
2) I.011 E.017 85/95
3) I.016 E.018 90/105
4) I.015 E.016 95/110
5) I.014 E.018 70/90
6) I.014 E.013 45/60

These readings are cold...the specs are for I.010 E.014
hot. If these adjustments have any relation to compression,
I am tempted to adjust the intake to .015 and the exhaust to
.018. What do you think?
Thanks for letting me share in our discoveries,
Lisa
