Someone mentioned Ramsey winches and I would like to relate what I know
about Ramsey winches. Ramsey winches work as well any when they work. I work
for TN. wildlife dept., have for 21 yrs. When we (dept.) bought our own
winches we used Warn. We had warn winches that have worn-out 2 or 3 trucks.
About 15 yrs. ago all field personnel were issued state vehicles. These
vehicles are bought and maintained by Dept. of General Services (motor
pool). These vehicles are bided to our specs. Ramsey has been used for past
10 yrs. or so. At any given time 1/2 of these winches will not work. I had a
Ramsey dealer tell me that they are not as waterproof as Warn(He also sells
Warn). He told me this while I was having a motor replaced,in my Ramsey. We
have complained about the dependability of the Ramsey, but because they are
low bidder that's what we are STUCK with. Most of these vehicles are used in
enforcement work, all kinds of weather, all types of terrain( except
desert). Tennessee is swampy in West and mountains in East. I don't know of
anything short of military use that could be harder on a vehicle, than what
we do.
I don't want to start trouble, but I would not recommend anyone buy
a Ramsey(unless he can keep it dry). I hope this will help someone, that's
what this list is all about.
Keith
