I'd never use a safety related part (like a brake hose) of that age, but
if it's been boxed you are OK. Most of the wartime genuine and artifical
rubber is degraded primarily by the UV in sunlight, so if it's been in a
dark box - no problem.
DON'T use tyre black though, as this can cause cracking (I'm told)
