Okay, now that the 5 ton wrecker I've been waiting to come to auction has been pulled from DRMO I've
started looking for something else and have come across a GMC M220 shop van. The tag on the dash
identifies it as an XM220, mftr serial # 020, and delivery date of 1-53. Is this #20 of the first
batch of M135/M211/M220's to the Army for testing or just that it's shop van #20? Did the M220's use
the same cab as the M135/M211 with a removable top? The reason I asked was I thought I read
somewhere that the M220's had a fixed hard top but this one appears the have a bolt on one. From
previous discussions on M135/M211's I noticed that you must let the engine run for a while for the
tranny to warm up before driving. The owner told me the tranny works but you have to move the
shifter around a little to get it to go in to gear correctly. Does this sound like it could be ready
for a rebuild or just loose shift linkage? What is the availability of parts for the engine and
transmission? I would like to buy this truck and actually drive it a few times a month. What else
should I be aware of before jumping in over my head? I've already got my wife's approval to buy it
so I'm half way there, I just want to gather some more info first.

Thanks for any help you can provide,
Bryan R.
