The DRMO tried to do this to me with an M416 trailer, even though it had its
original data plate with date of delivery. I had to talk to a higher up
supervisor than the one supervising the people filling out the SF 97's
before I got it corrected. If you cannot find a date of delivery on the
plate, look at the DSA or DAA number on the plate. This is the contract
number. Some where in the number is a two or three digit number, which is
either the month and year or the year. If the DRMO refuses to provide the
year for the vehicle, tell them that they must take it back, as it may not
be titled in your state. That will get them moving, as they must comply
with ALL state regulations regarding vehicles, and most states have a reg
some where requiring a date of manufacture to be noted during transfer of a
motor vehicle. What this means is that technically ( I have never seen it
used in a court of law, although I threatened it when I went through it with
the M416 ) this is a breach of contract and they could be forced to comply
or restore your expenses (including shipping).
