I think you mean M-38-A1 and not M-38. M-38 has flat fenders/hood like
CJ-2. M-38-A1 has curved fenders and hood like CJ-5. If it's an M-38-A1,
it will have a round depression on the right side just under the cowl where
the slave receptacle goes and NO tailgate. Both the CJ-5 and the M-38-A1
have the hood cutout. There are many other spotting features but these are
the quickest to determine which it is.
