Not sure your statements are entirely accurate. The ATF doesn't care about
softskin vehicles of US or foreign manufacture. Form 6 is an ATF document.
The Department of State is concerned with the return of US manufactured
vehicles SUBJECT TO LEND-LEASE AGREEMENTS or MILITARY ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS.
If you can prove your US manufactured softskin vehicle is not a
lend-lease/MAP item, it should be importable, just like any other passenger
vehicle (or Unimog).

I think that with some common sense many of these items could be imported. I
doubt that the State Dept. would really concern itself much with "antique
motorcycle engines."

I am aware that aircraft were imported during the aircraft importation ban
as "aircraft parts." The wings went in one container, and the fuselages in
the other. This may not fit the spirit of the law, but it fit the letter of
the law. Now the law has been changed to allow any subsonic "combat"
aircraft to be imported, but the Dept. of State is still in the loop for
lend-lease/MAP items.

I think this topic is worthy of further discussion. Does anyone have any
updated or better information?

Before all you USA listers work up a head of steam about Mark and his sales
policies, remind yourselves that, under present administrative practice, you
cannot *legally* import US manufactured ex-miltary vehicles or spares into
the States no matter at what price or in what quantities. You need an
approved ATF Form 6 Import Permit to do this and the Administration just
isn't issuing these for this class of material - it doesn't often even reply
to requests. This also applies to imports from Canada and a bunch of
Continental 9 cyl radial engines have already been confiscated at the
border- so much for a bunch of Harley engines. Non US manufactured stuff
may be different but I wouldn't try without a Form 6. Customs are likely to
take a good look at things coming in from the Eastern block.
