John,
Bruce is totally a 100% squared away and honest fellow and I liked him a
lot..... it is Hayes that I mean to caution you against. I don't want to go
any further into it really......it may be a simple misunderstanding but I
have reasons to think otherwise.
Regarding the parts you asked about. I have original rear armor sides
(demilled but re-spotwelded while still on the Scout so they retain their
proper sizing) and some other rear pieces such as the fenderwells, etc that
I have arranged to take to a local ironworks place for exact reproduction.
This will include countersunk bolt holes and other holes in proper
placement. Exact measurements for other components such as the rear floor
plates and stowage boxes will come from a Scout on display nearby. The
ironworks has very sophisticated equipment which will map out original parts
and put it on a computer CAD system or introduce measurements to their cad
system. They can make A N Y T H I N G ...period. I am also trying to get
approval to borrow a skate rail from a local museum static Scout for
reproduction at the same ironworks. The opening rounds of those
negotiations were fired this afternoon as a matter of fact. I find that a
particularly exciting prospect, since actual skate rails are about $3000
last I heard. If this can be accomplished, life for Scout owners just got
brighter! Too soon to tell what they'll cost, though. I have had the
fellows there take a look at what I have so far for them to reproduce. The
big flat plates, reenforcements and rolled rear fenders are child's play for
them. Anyway, I will be send some things out to be done when it is time
(and that will be soon if my work on refinishing the cab chassis progresses
as well as it has been.) Please stay in touch with me on this if you are
interested.
TJ
