The 194th was for years, the Armored Brigade that was stationed at Fort Knox
to support the Armor School. A separate Brigade, in theory, it had enough
support units to fight on it's own, as opposed to a traditional Brigade which
was assigned to a Division.

But that was later in history.

The 194th was activated 21 December 1962 at Fort Ord! The Brigade's
Cavalry Squadron was the 5th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment. The 5/9 Cav was
inactivated on 4 January 1968.

The 5 CAV 9 refers to the 5th Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment.

The 9th Cav is one of the oldies! Constituted in 1866, it's probably most
famous for its actions at San Juan Hill, Santiago, Cuba.
