Hi list,
After my sandblasting tent took flight last week I strapped it down to the
Scout Car, running several staps from the ridgepole of the tent straight
down to the Scout. We had a little wind today and the tent didn't budge.
Hooray.
I ran 600# of sand through the sandblaster today and I am very nearly done
with the chassis. Those little nooks and crannies are a real test of my
patience! Everything is in place for an early start tomorrow. Perhaps I
can finish it off! The big bonus to having that darned thing out of the
tent is that I will be able to really cut loose on the rest of the odds and
ends with the sandblaster and they should be completed quite quickly. (on
the other hand, my tent ballast will be gone....hmm....!) I am looking
forward to the time when I get to bolt everything back on! That will be
quite a day......days.... a week, maybe. :^)
Regarding the tank with the add-ons to the armor. I haven't heard any of
you mention the positive effect it would have to minimize spalling. Not
every hit would necessarily have to penetrate the armor to injure the crew
and precipitate the withdrawal of the tank from action (which is nearly as
good as a kill in the short term.) I would think it would be sufficient to
say that someone decided that adding all that junk on the exterior of the
tank (especially considering the additional strain it placed on the
suspension) was worth the time and effort. I have read that Patton's
problem with the add-ons was he believed it was "demoralizing" to the
troops. Personally, I would find a tank clanking along with add-ons much
less demoralizing than observing one shot to pieces or burnt up.
Regards,
TJ
