Mr. Germaine's Radios

Hi all,

Just last week I phoned in an order for one of Ron Germaine's BC-1000 back
pack radios. I snail-mailed a check (not money order) to him and just last
night there was that wonderful sight that we all look forward to... a
shipping box sitting on the front porch. I didn't get a chance to even open
it until late last night, but I am most pleased with my new prop for my GPW.

The BC-1000 was spotlessly clean, and didn't seem to have any broken or
severely worn/damaged parts on the outside. BTW this is not, and was not
advertised to be, a working radio; nor does it come with a battery. The
dials all work, the little plug hole covers are in operating order, data
plate clean, the top cover hinges are good, etc., etc. It came with NOS
(still in wrapper) carrying harness, used hand set (looks like your
grandmother's telephone) and small antenna (sp?) that looks new, but not in
wrapper. The only thing that wasn't real nice was the frequency dial numbers
on the upper and lower end of the spectrum were not too nice; turn the dial
to the mid range and presto! nice clear dial numbers.

In my conversation last week with Mr. Germaine, he told me that each unit is
sandblasted (there was some minor pitting here and there, but no big deal),
painted and the markings re-silk-screened. $175 + shipping. Of course, he
sends a flyer along with it with some more stuff you can buy for your radio
(Including one of those generator sets that you sit on and "pedal" with your
hands).

Anyways, when I get what to me is a good product, I want to pass it on. You
may think that just under $200.00 is alot to pay for a radio that doesn't
work, but I think it is a worthwhile addition to my jeep as there is really
nothing else I need to buy for it to be "complete". I don't have to worry
about expensive mounts, modifications, power supplies, cables or any of that
stuff. Of course, I don't portray my jeep to be a radio jeep anyways.

Mr. Germaine advertises in Supply Line in the classified section. The latest
issue has a picture as well with the description.

Have a nice day,

Bob K.
