M38A1 engine or civilian F head engine?

Hi all,
I bought an engine recently which was removed from a
civilian CJ5 Jeep. There is a double pully on the crank and
water pump. There is only one pully on the generator. The
engine is painted metallic turquoise green from the '60's
era (it was out of a 65 CJ5). Is there a way to tell if this
engine was replaced with an M38A1 engine at one time? Maybe
the serial number? The carb, starter, and dist are still on
it, and are 12 volt. Could it be possible that this is a
remanufactured engine that was sold through an auto parts
store or engine warehouse without concern for the difference
between a civilian and military 134 F head? The valve cover
is painted red.
Thanks for any info.
Lisa
