Since there was a LOT of coalition forces from former Soviet bloc that
was on our side, conversely, the Iraqi forces had former US equipment,
there had to be a way for quick recognition in "shoot-don't shoot"
instances. The 'V' (inverted when I saw it) was chosen, and painted on
in theatre vehicles. THe CUCV s I have seen were desert tan with black
'V' on doors. every once in awhile, you still see some around base and
USAR/NG units even though they were supposed to be painted over.
