Chris,
Your speedometer problem isn't just a CUCV problem, it also
occurs in civilian vehicles when the speedo drive cable's lube
becomes old and sticky. Remove the cable from its housing,
clean and lube it. There's special oils for this purpose, but I
use non-detergent 20W motor oil with good results.
Sometimes the cable breaks and the frayed ends intermittently
catch causing a similar problem, but it would normally continue
after warming up. Same thing with a partially stripped drive gear.
You might even find worn and frayed areas on the cable Look
for tight bends in the cable housing. too.
