My initial message (1984 MUTT)sent to mil-veh@skylee evoked a good response
from Julian and other Mutt experts. The issues that I raised then about my
MUTT body ignited a very long debate (MUTT body...) in different forms!
Please Julian, respond to my below message that I sent to the list FOUR
times but never got posted. Input from Ken, Gavin and other MUTT experts
would be welcome too.

Julian, in March 2000, I had provided you with the vehicle serial number,
engine number and the contract number of my MUTT and had requested you to

Hello all, I talked with my friend at AMG and in the last 1200 or so
M-151A2's that were produced in South Bend, IN., 46 of these units were
sold to the Sudanese Gov't with a "gov't furnished" engine. No serial
numbers immediately available. As far as AMG knows, every single A2 jeep
that they ever produced were ALL using the the Hercules engine. NO other
engines were used. The last 1200 were all delivered in 1984 and ALL were
sold to overseas gov'ts mainly Pakastan. The individual who purchased the
Sudan M-151A2 has a rather rare one as none exist in this country AFAIK. I
wonder if he plans to bring it back to this country?

I would be very interested in looking at a 1984 M-151A2. The reason is
because none were manufactured. The last production from AM General was
around the fall of 1978. The next production and the LAST production from
AM General for M-151A2's were in a 1985 contract for the Pakistan Gov't for
1200 units. That was it for A2's and all were
exported........... AM General was developing the Humvee in the late
70's and were in production by late 1983. The old Studebaker plant was the
factory for M-151A2's in South Bend, Indiana and was completely shut down
after that. The property still stands and is currently a storage warehouse
for a private concern. The test track beside it (400 acres or so) is a
Humvee training/proving ground. There were no aluminum bodied A2's produced
there and the AMG factory is not aware of any either. I think Ford
experimented with some aluminum bodies in the early 60's but not sure of
that.

In your earlier message (dated March 15) you wrote that 46 of the 1200
MUTTs produced were sold to mainly Pakistani Government and that all the
1200 were delivered in 1984. But in your next message dated 02 September
2000, you are saying that NO MUTTs were produced between 1978 and 1985 by
AMG and that ALL the 1200 MUTTs produced in 1985 were exported to Pakistan.
Then what about the 46 MUTTs sold to Sudanese Government and delivered in
1984-as your earlier message claims?
NOW YOU HAVE CONFUSED ME !!!
