Emmett,

We have a CUCV pickup at our museum that I have done some work on. On the
glow plug system. As I recall, the glow plug relay is fed by a wire that
runs directly from the 12 volt battery to the relay. I appears that it
originally ran through the resistor, but someone bypassed that before we
received the truck. The connection to the battery is through a wire (10
gage?) that is molded into the lead battery clamp right next to the main
battery cable, so it appears to be "factory". The 24 volt starting system is
still in place and I am assuming that the batteries are connected properly
because the truck starts and runs fine, now. I had to replace the glow plugs
and relay a couple of months ago. While doing that work, I looked through
the schematic for the truck. My recollection is that the power source for
the glow plugs is supposed to be 12 volts (a single battery) but I could be
wrong. I'll try to find the time to look at the schematic again when I am
out there again next weekend.

John

OK guys I know to some this might sound like a stupid question but here I go

Why did GM take the glow plug power off the voltage dropping resistor? Why
not just take 12 vdc off the normal vehicle wiring?
The only things on the 24vdc are the starter, slave recpt, and the power
strip for radios, and lastly the glow plug power thru the dropping resistor.

I would think that you could just take the resistor out of the circut and
connect the power line directly to the 12 volt buss located just above the
relay.

Regards
Emmett
