Way back when I was younger, we took a trip on the Alcan highway to Alaska and I
remember seeing piles of burnt tires under elevated Propane tanks next to
buildings. I questioned why the propane tanks were ontop of a firepit and the
answer was that they routinely burn tires under propane tanks to keep them from
freezing during really cold temps. The tires are cheap or free and they burn for a
long time! They did this right next to their house! I don't think I would sleep
very well knowing I had a fire under my propane tank outside.. I bet they still do
stuff like that up north. Apparently it works!
