The town where Major / General (?) Henry Shrapnel came to experiment at
the famous Carron Iron Works with bomb casings deeply grooved to fly apart
into small pieces when they detonated. Carron was able to make casings
that were of a uniform section and grooving so that they gave cosistent
results.
