This is my first post to this list,
( and my first military vehicle).
I have just purchased a GMC 6WD.
build date is 5/44; serial no is 358508-1
It is in good mechanical condition, complete, but has some rust in the cab.
The truck has been owned by Transfield Constructions since 1958.
This is an Australian firm who used it primarily to construct HV power
lines.
I spoke to the maintenance manager who had been there since '65 and knew its
history.
He told me "it had at least 10 complete rebuilds" but had only been used as
a yard
truck for the last 15 years..i acquired spare front and rear dif centres,
winch and T/case. I hope to do a thorough body resto. I will post more soon.
I really like it, and feel it makes an excellent addition to my vehicle
collection.
I paid $2300 + $500 for the spares...these are puny $1Aust=$0.52US.
I would appreciate contact from any owners..or anyone at all really
