RE M38A1 Serial Numbers- My serial number information shows that the serial
numbers started at 10,000, the normal situation with Willys.

RE Concurrent Production- I have production history cards from W/O that
show production began in April 1952 for the M38A1 and production ended on
the M38 in July of 1952. Perhaps as much as three months of concurrent
production. I also have some information that shows a number of M38s being
produced in 1955, I believe for an export contract. Remember that the
Canadians also built M38s.

Rikk asked for a list of all Jeeps. The list below comes pretty close,
excluding only a few prototypes and pilot models. It will be appearing in
my new book, "Jeep: The American Legend" due out soon from Classic
Motorbooks. A shorter version was also in my other Jeep book, "Illustrated
Jeep Buyers Guide" from 1999. Enjoy.

PS- Thanks, Ken, for throwing me under the bus yet again for that MUTT
typo! The one in my book continues to follow me around like the grim
reaper, but this time it wasn't me. Only about half of the stuff on the
CJ3B web page you mentioned was mine. I did the original poster for Four
Wheeler that had room for only 22 Jeeps (not including the MUTT). Derek got
permission from the magazine to use their format and do a more complete one
for his website. I'm not sure exactly where the information on the MUTT
came from, though I suspect that if Derek wrote it, he may have gotten the
misstated MUTT acronym from my early "Classic 4x4s" book, so here I am,
UNDER THE BUS AGAIN! Might as well check the diff oil and grease the
propshafts while I'm here! (Sigh.)
