This subject is going to be VERY controversial. Speaking as someone
who owns tracked armour the idea of wheeled main battle tanks sounds
ludicrous to me. Both my wheeled vehicles are almost useless in sand
as their ground pressure is far too high. The tracked vehicle couldn't
care less, actually it loves sand, my M3A1 Stuart was the same.
Then there is snow, I can only guess from the comments I have seen
on this list about the performance of different vehicles in snow, but
if the events in Russia in WW2 are anything to go by, tracks are a
real asset.
So that leaves sealed roads and firm ground for the AFV's of the
future - it will be the first time in history in which someone knows
where they are going to have all their future battles..........
