Hello to the 3 lists:
Happy New Year's Eve !

I have a couple of questions regarding willys jeep MB piston rings???

I just came back from Barnes and Nobles Bookstore in Syracuse, NY

I found the book
THE JEEP by John Carrol

Maybe those very experience with the MB side vlave engines could explain

On page 7 ...Caroll explains how the rings would wear out within 6000
miles?
He states taht theplugs would oil so badly that it was time for a "new" ring
job

Question ONE !
I assumed he was talking about the "Oil Rings" only?
...as there was "no" mention of a loss of power due to low compression, as
well!
a (I've had engines burn oil that had somewhat "normal" compression also

Question TWO !
Are the "new modern" ring sets more efficient than these original rings were
found to be?

Qusetion THREE !
Is it possible that the oil bath air filters were "generally not maintained"
therefore allowing fine dirt/dust to prematurely wear both rings - pistons -
cylinders in the rugged war conditions
Finally If anyone is wondering about the book mention above... it has dozens
and dozens and more... pictures of jeeps in service in WW2

NOW NO FLAMES HER !
...and NOT to RAISE the nagging question regarding the previous messages re
"jeeps in crates" that came up constantly on one of the list... some months
back...
As I said Not to RAISE ...well you know what I mean.. it nearly became
nasty...
However, in the book there was numerous pictures of crated & UN-crated jeeps
in the process of being assembles in several countries???

Seems like jeeps left the US in both the Uncrated and Crated conditions!

Regards to all for MORE WILLYS POINTS for this coming year.. eh !
