Canada had some Dodge military pickups but as I recall they all had standard
transmissions. I was the lucky recipient of a power plant and transmission
yarded out of one such vehicle that had been rolled, and installed it in my
M886. This engine did indeed have the oil-bath air cleaner (guess it was
standard on the Canadian vehicles), but I never did check to see whether or
not it was a 340 cu. in. as opposed to the 318-2. It certainly looked the
same as the garden variety 318, but then again, I guess even a 340 would
also, yes? I know at some point in the Dodge displacement heirarchy the
distributor migrates from the back to the front, but all of my engines
including the oil-bath beast mentioned had the rear (firewall end)
distributor setup.
