J C Whitney use to sell 6v run 12 v start series parallel relays.

To run straight 12 volts, you need to naturally replace all the light bulbs,
add an ignition resistor in series with the coil input (feed). J C Whitney
sells a voltage REGULATOR, not a resistor (there is a difference) to drop
the feed to the fuel gage back to exactly 6v.
The starter will be fine as is. The generator can sometimes be adjusted to
output 13 volts. A friend of mine did this using a variable DC power supply
to set the relays in the regulator. If not, a 12v generator or alternator
will do the trick.

Steve AKA Dr Deuce (all mine are 12v)

No!

Maximum voltage with running engine on a "12 Volt system" is 14.3 volts.
If there are 15 Volts, the regulator is damaged and will cook the battery.
