M211 serial numbers

Hello Fellow Mv'rs
I have a 1953 M211 that was rebuilt in Japan
in 1956. During rebuild they removed the original
serial number data plate on the dash and replaced
it with a different one. The serial number on the
frame is different than the one on the dash. Did
they originally match ???
