Here's the list of exemptions from my CDL manual.

Operators of these vehicles are exempt from the CDL requirements. CRS
42-20-502 (III)

- Recreation Vehicles

- Military vehicles operated by military personnel

- Firefighting Equipment

- Farm Vehicles:

a. Controlled and operated by a farmer;
b. Used to transport agricultural products, farm machinery, or farm supplies
to and from a farm (doesn't include hazardous materials);
c. Not used in the operations of a common or contract motor carrier; or
d. Used within 150 air miles of the person's farm.

I live in new mexico but I think these are federal rules. We have a horse
ranch and use the vehicles in conjunction with it so I believe that I am
exempt under the farm vehicle clause. When I asked the MVD folks they
agreed but still suggested that I go ahead and get a CDL to minimize hassles
for myself if stopped and at weigh stations. I haven't yet but probably
will when I get around to it.
