Well then the next best answer is to go to the friendly hardware store and
buy a gallon jug of muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid or HCL) commonly used
for cleaning pools and concrete. Put the nuts in a plastic cup and put a
couple inches of acid in and watch them fizzle. Periodically swirl it
around. When the fizzing starts to taper off or stops then you are
basically done. Always a good idea to do this outside and since your in San
Antonio does not sound like a problem this time of year. Best method of
disposal for me is to flush the toilet and slowly pour the remains in. Also
you could sand and/or glass bead them, that will take the plating off and
give you a nice rough finish for the primer to stick to.
