Mike,
I will reply on list so RAM or David Doyle can correct me if I miss this
one.
If my understanding is correct, if you tow an M35 with the front wheels off
of the ground, the Sprag system on the older ones will try to cause the
front wheels to "Drive".
This will most likely cause damage if done for any distance/speed.
One of two things will be true here,
1. The manual you are using relates to the older, Sprag type Xfer cases.
or
2. Command considered it easier to say to the "operator level" "just don't
do it" and save trying to explain the difference.

I am playing games with my sprag system now, it works driving on mud or ice
at 15+ MPH, but when stuck it only kicks in in rev, and then only part of
the time.

By the way: My M44-series (i.e., M35A2) TM says "don't tow the truck
with the front axle off the ground; call organizational maintenance."

Is that because:

a) The truck should not ever be towed with the front axle off the
ground.

or

b) They just didn't want the low-echelon guys messing with that, and
wanted a higher repair echelon to get involved if the truck was dead
enough to need a wrecker.

In other words, should I heed that warning for my own personal use?

My M109A3 shop van came home from DRMO with its front axle off the
ground, and the shaft from the transfer case to the middle axle
removed. It was a trip of about 150 miles or so.
