I had better point out one more thing as a few people are punting
at a vacuum problem. The Zenith carb has no vacuum attachments. When
I say it is basic, believe me that means VERY basic, there is a weird
spring loaded piston in it which I am assuming is the equivalent of
an accelerator pump (there is no mechanical connection to it).
Stuart - this carby is a side draft so I am unable to check down its
throat for dryness/wetness. Your suggestion is good, but I just don't
have any way to carry it out - thanks - any other clues?
John - I am very remiss to drill out the main jet at this point as I
perceive the problem to be too much rather than too little petrol, but
if no other solution occurs I will try yours. I may have interpreted
the function of the idle mixture screw wrong and it may in effect be
a air screw rather than a petrol screw.
Richard - when I did do a compression check the greatest variation
was about 20 psi?
WWIItrucks - The miss is not identifyable to any one cylinder, pulling
off spark plug leads does not give any clues, each cylinder appears
to drop the idle speed.
Chance - your suggestion of the intake manifold (and a few other
peoples) is valid and I will have to check it out - thanks.
To those who are suggesting carb float levels, I am waiting on some
info coming from John in America as to the correct settings, until then
I would only be guessing and probably make it worse.
All suggestions are greatfully accepted and I will use/eliminate each
one until the problem is solved.
