M543A2 Wrecker Arrived Today

Hi, folks. You may recall that M543A2 5-ton 6x6 wrecker that showed up
on Ebay recently, and was mentioned on the list. Although I didn't
have the high bid, the winning bidder was non-responsive, the seller
contacted the other bidders to offer them a chance to buy the truck
before he re-listed it, and I eventually ended up buying the truck
after some negotiation. It just arrived today, after traveling from
Wisconsin to southern California on a drop-deck trailer. It's a bit
uglier than I had hoped, but it seems to run OK, the crane works, and
after my cursory examination (after unloading, I was too tired to even
open the hood to look at the engine!) it looks like it's in reasonably
good shape for a 36-year-old workhorse. It doesn't look like it'll
need much work to get it up to my standards for operability [famous
last words... :-)], but it will probably need new tires before I drive
it too much.

Suitable unloading facilities were not available at my end, so we had
to unload it with the help of a commercial wrecker. Those of you who
enjoy seeing large, heavy things suspended in the air may enjoy the
pictures that I added to my web page today (the URL is below in my
signature).

Keep `em rolling!
