Today, Sat., 16th., in the Binghamton area NY, we had our local MVPA
chapter meeting at our group's Presidents home.

Wow ! 4 jeeps all fully restored in virtually showroom and all original
condition.

One was the early GPW in faultless condition

The next was an CJ3B with tailgate which was one of some that were purchased
by the military well after the WW2 ??? - it was complete with machine gun
and fording kit ...just beautiful.

The third one was M 38A ??? again showroom finish

The last one... was I think, an M28A1 with a rocket launcher.
The launcher was nearly as long as the jeep.

Then there were a couple of engines etc rebuilt on stands, both were the
Overhead valve engine.

What eye fodder it was to see them all restored.

Then there was another Willys CJ5 ish immaculate.

I wish I had taken my camera !

Aussie Rob
'42MB in average to sad shape - as compared to what I saw today.

Thanks for asking about the GPW. I obtained it from Chris Davis earlier this
year, (see his on going Carryall restoration posts). The engine is seized
and
the body is a bit bashed about but not too bad. There is very little rust,
(where the axe locates and the top hat section under the passenger seat),
though it does not have the original front bumper. There is a lot of
original
paint and the legend "T.P. 30 lb." is still clearly legible on the dash. It
does not carry any white stars or other markings.

I originally got the urge for a jeep after reading the article in Army
Motors, written in WW2, about loading out your jeep. I guess the idea of a
chicken riding on the front fender fascinated me. Once I got it, I had a
change of heart and decided it would be marked as one of the 11th Hussars,
British 7th Armored Division, which used jeeps as recon vehicles from late
1942 to early 1943. Paint finish will be standard US Olive Drab, then the
outside blown over with British Desert Tan. I am trying to figure out what
sort of MG's they carried, probably .30 Brownings, but I have a penchant to
mount a Vickers .303. All I have to do is figure out how to mount it. Any
ideas?
