MB Cracked Block - Fixed ! Next problem ....

Hi Listers
Using Holts Wondarweld appears to have fixed the crack inside my MB's block
No water in the oil, no emulsion so far.
I'll post on this again after more miles.

In the meantime the engine won't idle. Never had this problem before. I have
to use the choke almost closed and throttle to keep it going, otherwise it
cuts out.
Any suggestions anyone ?
This is what I have done so far :-

1. Complete overhaul and cleanout of carb, new jets and needles, all
passageways checked ok., all bolted up tight - no difference. The idling
adjustment screw has no effect whatever whether open or closed up. This
suggests low speed circuit not working, but all components check out ok.
2. Checked ignition timing several times - all ok. Tried advancing and
retarding - no difference to idling problem.
3. Spark plugs cleaned and gapped - no difference.
4. Air cleaner cleaned - new oil. Makes no difference with or without air
cleaner connected up.

I will do a compression test later today to see if any valves are sticking
and therefore leaking air into the system.
Also thinking of replacing exhaust/inlet manifold gasket to ensure no leaks
there. Nasty job - inlet nuts hard to reach.
Maybe a new diaphragm in the fuel pump needed ? Not sure why this would
affect matters but who knows ?

One difference is that I have used unleaded gas for the first time, without
additive so far although I have some ready to put in.

After all the above I have run out of ideas.

Any suggestions welcomed.
Regards
Glenn
