When the tests for the Swedish army new 4x4 was taking place in 1958/59 there were two contenders;
- The Volvo prototype L2304, later built in 91 examples pre-production series in 1959 for further tests by the army.
- The FC-150 AM that was a Willys FC-150 modified with a Swedish built body very similar to that of the Volvo. The modification was made by the Swedish Willys importer Scania. Link shows a picture from the tests in -58/59. The Willys is the third vehicle in the row.

Volvo got the first order for 2000 vehicles and production of the (then modified) L3314 began in 1961.
