There are machines in use now that you pour used engine oil in, and they
filter it, blend with diesel, and pump back into fuel tank. Finished
product is a very black fuel. Does not seem to smoke.
Most engine manufactures will honor warranty if done this way.
But I understand that used oil furnaces are using up the supply of used
engine oil.
