Some of the bigger construction outfits here dump the used crank case
oilinto the diesel tanks and it gets filtered out thru the fuel filters and
burned.Although this can be done it blows lots of chemicals out into the air
that normally wouldn't be there.Crank case oil has many additives to make it
work good for what it does but isn't as clean to burn.It really doesn't hurt
the engine if done occasionally.Old timers used to add a quart of oil to a
gas pot back in the 30's and 40's to lube the compression rings.Early
designed engines also had a one piece oil scraper ring to allow a certain
amount of oil to get by to lube the upper rings but in the process this was
also burned. That's why when you bought a car then the dealer or maker would
say that something like 1 quart of oil per 1000miles usage was allowable and
typical.
