Dear Listers..............

way back when I was a lad (1976), we had just re-purchased our old Willys MB,
but it now had the addition of an M100 trailer.
When we took the rig to MV shows, we swapped the 700x16 trailer wheels onto
the rear axle of the MB. We saved lots of fuel because the bigger tyres
allowed us to keep the engine revs down while maintaining a reasonable speed.
We would then swap the wheels when we reached our destination.
We also found that a further small modification helped. We obtained a spare
set of front-axle drive flanges and my brother reamed the splines out. This
allowed the front wheels to roll freely, without having to turn the contents
of the front driveline.
Ahhh, the innovation of youth..........
