I drove down to Woodson's Bridge from Seattle (1400 miles round trip). My
15 year old son and I drove 24 hours to spend 3 hours at the event. Got
home at 3:30 this morning.
It was good enough that we WILL be back. Next year we will come earlier and
camp! I am just sorry we didn't get there earlier to see more of the
vehicles.
Many thanks to Gene Pantano for hauling that big stuff that couldn't be
shipped (M35 troop racks and winch) and to Sonny in the M135 with cargo top
for the complete radio installation kits!

First comment.... Woodson's Bridge. Another great event! If you missed it,
start planning for next year, it's worth it. Save for sleeping in my jeep,
it went pretty well and I had a great time. The new jeep is just not as
comfy as the old truck! Heck I had room for two king sized doubles in that
truck, now it's back to a 30 inch cot.
It seemed to me that we had more jeeps of all types this year, excellent
ones too, fully restored Mutts, vintage WWII eras Willy's and a couple of
different "jeep type" imports like Carl Thompson's perfect Pinz or my new
addition, the Volvo Valp.
Like a lot of the vendors that have been coming for awhile, newbee Gene
Pantano really had a nice assortment of parts at the right price, spent a
lot
of money at Gene's spot! FYI Bill George's Mutt was done to the max, (Bill
and Gene shared a spot too) not one more thing could have been added...
anywhere, it was absolutely amazing. Great job Bill!
Due to some rare concellations by the old timers, a few of us generally
content to camp somewhere in the sun and far from mainstream, wound up with
those shadey river front sites. These were cool, great views of the
Sacramento just below the bluff, close to shower facilities, each had power
hook ups, water and all for $17 per night! Such a deal!
We did our parade into Corning as usual, but once again it was more like a
fast caravan thru the main drag and if you happened to be on the sidewalk
and
didn't look up in time, you likely missed it. I'm thinking it would be
really nice for the mil vehicles to stop somewhere and let local people look
for an hour or so. But, that's not really my decision, just a suggestion...
if any of the MVCC'ers who organize Woodson's are reading this? Hmmm? Sure
would increase public awarness... thats a good thing, right?
Next...on the "intrustions" thread I had to comment on this part:
"Now, the electric company is regulated, because if they weren't, guess who
would be getting reamed, just like we are getting reamed by eBay."
Actually the move in the U.S. is toward deregulation and competition in the
power business to lower prices and improve service. I believe about a fifth
of the nation have done that already and it's going great for the most part.
Unlike the so-called deregulation in the Peoples Rep. of Kalifornia. This
was NOT dergulation, only a poorly crafted redistribution of wealth via our
dictatorial government bureaucracy. It was a nightmare for us and for the
utilities. Our State government passed regulations that clearly defied the
laws of economics! But since our state government only knows how to take
money, not make money, I guess it figures! We're still paying for their
dumbness and lack of business understanding.
Fact remains that real reform and real competition in the hands of private
organizations almost 99.9999% of the time beats government controlled...
anything! Smarter, friendlier, faster, cheaper are a few words that come
to
mind when I think of private business compared to government run places that
are almost always top heavy, expensive, slow, archaic, wasteful and
indifferent to the general public.
I prefer to take my chances in the open market place, amid competition than
to give that up for the sake of security and price stability provided by Big
Brother. If you are still unsure which is best, just think of what Big
Brother has done for our hobby here in the US of A. Armor importers were
almost out of business; they were on bended knee, begging for mercy till
Bush
came along. That should have been an eye opener who your friends are in
this hobby!
And that would be my 2 colonial (revolutionary) farthings worth.
