Re: [MV] WHERE IS THE MVPA?

As I posted some time ago....I spoke with Lee Holland about the current round
of proposed legislation personally.
He, as always, was very gracious.
He told me that there would be a posting to the MVPA website about this, and
there was.
What members of the board, or MVPA employees may subscribe to this list, I do
not know. However, since the MVPA neither owns or controls this list, I do
feel that the current policy of using MVPA's own venues of website and
publications to communicate is correct, rather than this public forum. I do
not notice a column from the MVPA in Military Vehicles Magazine, Wheels and
Tracks, or either of the two new hobbyist magazines, and to me, this is no
different in that regard.
The reason I feel this way is....
Even though I am low on the totem pole with the local chapter, it is amazing
how my personal opinion about something can be misconstrued by some,
intentionally or not, as the "official position" of my office. I can only
imagine how much this would be magnified in the case of a national officer.
I have not heard of any MVPA member who has contacted Lee Holland about this
who has not gotten a response. And for what its worth he doesn't know me
from Adam's off ox.
Put on to the point of my response....as you may recall, the last time this
type thing reared its head, it was removed in joint committee, not at full
vote. I in no way wish to diminish the potential threat this poses to our
hobby, and certainly we should continue the pressure on congress, although I
suspect that MVPA's lobbyist are leaning on those committee members, rather
than trying to sway the entire House/Senate, it would seem that would be the
only economical way for the club to approach this, and let individual members
lean on their various Senators/Congressmen.

Also, I am not a student of government, but since this is attached to an
appropriations bill, could this not also be subject to line item veto by
President Bush under the Line Item Veto Act? Perhaps another round of letter
writing is in order.
