Membership on this list has led me to some unexpected things while
researching vehicle info, parts and manuals and the like. While trying to
research an NSN number put up on this list at DSC Philadelphia's web site I
came across this in the August Clothesline (newsletter) section:

Ok, so what it comes down to is everyone believes in something and the
military has to cover all the bases. But the one thing all in the uniform of
our country (at least today versus 30 years ago) have in common is a desire
to serve THEIR country, and have taken an oath to that purpose.
Bigotry will always live in the human being in some form. Religion,
ancestors country of origin, ethnically distinctive name, features or color
or even the Mason-Dixon line cause us to give pause upon meeting someone.
But the bottom line here seems to be that we have to remember that
what's going on is being orchestrated by a small group of son of a bitches,
who happen to be Arabs, who practice a weird version of Islam and do not
reflect the beliefs of even a small majority of Arab people or the Muslim
faith. Anymore than Tim McVeigh was an indicator that all Methodists or
people west of the Mississippi are evil or Jim Jones was representative of
Christians in total.
All faiths are represented in our Armed Forces. They are laying their
lives on the line to avenge a wrong done to OUR (At least those on the list
who are American) country. Not yours, not mine, not theirs. OURS. Let's try
not to forget that in the upcoming months when we get pissed at reversals
that are bound to occur. Before we post the "pig blood spraying posts" and
the like. Think about the folks on the pointy end of the spear, while we
rant in comparative safety. Think about that the person going into the
Mosque in Cincinnati or dressed differently than you, that you are about to
think bad thoughts about, or maybe even scream an epithet at, may very well
have a son or daughter on the ground chasing the bastards down in
Afghanistan or the Philippines or where ever the trail leads. It is very
typical of immigrants who become US citizens to drill into their children
the opportunities this country presents to them, and the requirement for
them to pay back, in part by serving in the armed forces.
Don't ever forget that we are Americans, all of us. We aren't always
right, but our track record ain't too shabby. Let's not screw it up now at
home.

I now release my soap box.
