How much of the pulley nose is covered by the clamp area of the pulley outside
half? mine extends out about 3/32" so that full use of the clamping area is
used. you might also want to pull it all apart and check the actual condition
of the threads on the pulley threaded nose and the inside threads of the outside
pulley half. Make sure that these threads are in good condition and that they
are not worn, stripped or rounded over. They need to be nice and sharp. Also,
leave the belt off, and thread the outside pulley half onto the nose and check
for excessive play. If it isn't a great fit, then you have too much play, and
may not be unthreading like you think, but actualoly jumping the threads.

Put it all back together and use paint or a grease pencil, etc. and mark both
pulley pieces to see if it is actually unscrewing or coming straight off.
