M37 horn button kit

OK.....I should be able to do this. Horn works, wires are run, BUT, the
button itself won't reach far enough down into the steering wheel hub to
twist it into place. Am I missing something here? In the manual it
seems very straightforward.....but evidently I've made something simple
difficult......of course I've been known to do that before!

Any suggestions?
