Here is the latest information on the schedule of activities for the military
vehicle parade in New Orleans on Friday December 7th from the D-Day museum.

Please take a few minutes to review the following information thoroughly.
This information is of critical importance to OPL participants, so please
pay close attention.
 
1.) The SS American Victory is NOT coming
The ship was not able to arrange for a tug to get it to New Orleans, so it
is not going to make it after all. If you were planning to sleep on the
ship, you will need to make other arrangements. Registered OPL participants
will be allowed to camp at Pontchartrain Beach on Friday night & Saturday
night only.
 
 
2.) Vehicle Owners & the Parade
All vehicle owners who plan to drive a vehicle in the parade on Friday,
December 7th need to report to the River City Casino Parking Lot on
Thursday, December 6th. All vehicles parking there will be guarded
overnight. Trucks & trailers can be parked there as well. Here are
directions to the River City Casino Parking Lot:

Follow I-10 (either from the East or West) into downtown New Orleans
When in the downtown/CBD/Superdome vicinity, follow signs for 'Business 90
West - Westbank'
This will lead you towards the GNO (Greater New Orleans) Bridge
- DO NOT CROSS THE GNO BRIDGE! -
Exit at the South Peters Street/Tchoupitoulas Street exit (this is the last
exit before crossing the river)
At the second red light, turn right on Tchoupitoulas Street
At the first red light turn left onto Henderson Street
The Ernest Morial Convention Center will be on your left & the River City
Casino Parking Lot will be on your right.
 
The parade sequence will begin forming at 8:30 a.m., Friday, December 7th in
front of the Ernest Morial Convention Center. The parade itself begins at
10:00 a.m. & will last until approximately 12:30 p.m. The parade route
begins & ends at the Ernest Morial Convention Center.
 
 
3.) OPL Participant Information
Pre-registered participants can check-in at the event site (Pontchartrain
Beach) beginning on Thursday, December 6th. All re-enactors & vehicle
owners will need to obtain their participant credentials BEFORE the parade.
If you do not have participant credentials, you will not be allowed to be in
the parade. Participant credentials & participant parking passes will be
distributed at check-in only. The only way to obtain participant
credentials & participant parking passes is through pre-registration. If
you have not yet pre-registered, act now!
 
Following is a schedule of Saturday's activities:
 
Operation Pacific Legacy
Sequence of Events Schedule (Saturday, December 8th)
Event Location: Pontchartrain Beach
 
8:00 a.m.
Company Formation/Briefing
 
9:00 a.m.
Site Opens to the Public
 
10:00 a.m.
Opening Ceremonies
Presentation of the colors by the University of Kansas Naval ROTC color
guard followed by the signing of the National Anthem.
 
11:00 a.m.
Pacific Beach Assault Weapons Demonstration
Re-enactors portraying US & Japanese forces will demonstrate the various
weapons used during the war in the Pacific. This narrated demonstration
will also feature a deployment exercise of an original LVT-4 'Amtrac' & an
LCVP.

12:00 noon
Scenario #1: Air Raid Pearl Harbor
Re-enactors portraying US Army personnel from the time period of December
1941 together with vintage Japanese and US aircraft will recreate the air
attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The re-enactors will wear authentic
uniforms, they will use authentic equipment and they will be armed with
authentic "blank-firing" weapons that will be used during the scenario to
simulate combat with the attacking Japanese airplanes. Vintage American
warbirds will simulate aerial combat with the attackers. There will also be
a pyrotechnics display that will simulate bomb blasts. (12:00 p.m.)

2:00 p.m.
Scenario #2: Tarawa
Re-enactors portraying US Marines and Japanese Imperial forces will
re-create the November 1943 battle for the island of Betio in the Tarawa
atoll. The Marines will assault Japanese positions on Pontchartrain Beach
using an LCVP and an LVT-4. The re-enactors will wear authentic uniforms,
they will use authentic equipment and they be armed with authentic
"blank-firing" weapons. Six vintage Japanese and US airplanes will also
take part in this re-enactment. (2:00 p.m.)

(vicinity of 2251 Lakeshore Dr., New Orleans, LA 70145)
 
DIRECTIONS to Pontchartrain Beach (from the East):
Follow I-10 West to the city of New Orleans. Take the I-610 W exit, exit
#238B, towards New Orleans INTL AIRPORT/BATON ROUGE. Merge onto I-610 W.
Take the ELYSIAN FIELDS AVE exit, exit #3, towards DILLARD
UNIVERSITY/UNIVERSITY OF NEW ORLEANS. Turn RIGHT onto ELYSIAN FIELDS AVE.
Follow ELYSIAN FIELDS AVE. until it ends at the circle. Pontchartrain Beach
is straight ahead on the other side of the circle.
 
DIRECTIONS to Pontchartrain Beach (from the West):
Follow I-10 East to the city of New Orleans. Take the I-610 E exit, exit
number 230, on the left towards SLIDELL. Merge onto I-610 E. Take the
ELYSIAN FIELDS AVE exit, exit #3. Turn LEFT onto ELYSIAN FIELDS AVE.
Follow ELYSIAN FIELDS AVE. until it ends at the circle. Pontchartrain Beach
is straight ahead on the other side of the circle. Follow the signs for
participant parking.
 
 
4.) OPL Participant Tour of The National D-Day Museum
All pre-registered OPL participants will have an opportunity to visit The
National D-Day Museum at no cost on Friday, December 7th
between 8:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m. To enter the museum, you must present your
OPL participant credentials at the entrance to the museum.
