For What It's Worth:

There is a separate 12 volt lead coming off of one of the batteries in the
800 series trucks. I believe that it is for the glow plug that is in the
intake (for cold starts), as it is on both the wrecker and the tractor
versions of that series. I assume that it appears on all 800 series
vehicles. It was DESIGNED to be there. It pulls a fair amount of power, but
only for a minute or two, while the engine is being cranked and during the
first minute or so of warm-up. I'm not exactly sure how this relates to the
idea of hooking up a 12 volt accessory to one of your batteries but, if the
accessory didn't pull much power, it might be equivalent to the load from
the glow plug.

Hi Amnon:
Sorry, It, like all the other questions on the list, is a legitimate
question. It (like the other threads) pops up every 8 to 10 months and you
will now hear from numerous 'experts' on why you can, can't, should, could,
shouldn't, couldn't, will destroy your (pick one, battery(ies), alternator,
generator, wooden weeble wobble, etc.). The thread will then wander off
into arguments of arcane points of electrical theory and chemical principals
and what happens in the K shell of the Lead Sulfate molecule. Take it with a
grain of salt, and you'll find the truth somewhere in the middle.
For now, just sit back and enjoy the show. Let the games begin!!!
